A Thanksgiving Tale

Once upon a time, there was a TURKEY and a PILGRIM…

Tara Redfield and GiGi Dubois

While rummaging through the woods minding her own business, the turkey stumbled upon the pilgrim sitting on a moss-crusted rock, moping.

Tara Redfield

“Gobble… Why so sad, gobble…?” The turkey asked the pilgrim rather concerned.

“I haven’t got a delicious appetizer to serve DADDY PILGRIM and the rest of our clan for Thanksgiving!” The pilgrim replied as she buried her face into her hands.

Panicked due to the fact that the turkey was now reminded that Thanksgiving, AKA: Turkey Armageddon, was on the horizon… The turkey started to step away slowly

Turkey-Twerk-5

“Don’t worry little gobbler…” The Pilgrim said between sobs, “my family doesn’t like to eat turkey, as we believe it should have beaten out the Eagle as the nation’s bird.”

Alleviated from fear, the turkey told the pilgrim that she had an idea.

GiGi as a Turkey

“Gobble… I know, gobble, what will help spur your recipe conception… Gobble…” The turkey timidly said.

“Oh do tell my friend, do tell,” the pilgrim said with glee and continued, “if I don’t come up with something, I will be stuck doing the dishes!”

“We turkeys… Gobble… Do a dance… Gobble… When we need to, gobble, think…” The turkey said as she thrusted her tail feathers into the air.

Tara and GiGi Turkey Day

“I’m desperate, do show me!”

“Oh my goodness turkey, you’ve saved me… But no, really, you have saved my hands and arms from hours of dish scrubbing! Thank you! Thank you so very much!” The pilgrim rejoyced!

“While… gobble… This recipe may be tasty… Do me, gobble, a favor, gobble… Use moder… Gobble… Ation when eating these… Cause… Gobble… They’re not healthy… Gobble, at least you’re not eating, gobble, one of my relatives! Gobble! Now, bon… Gobble… Appetit!” The turkey said with a French accent.

“Wait, you’re French?”

  3. What was Franklin thinking?? Well we do have both wild turkeys and Bald Eagles in the neighborhood so I suppose those turkeys can fly a little, but not like the eagles I almost run into while flying at several thousand feet!

I’m hoping for salmon for TG dinner. Haven’t had turkey in many years. I did have tofurkey at a vegan TG once. Tasted like I sliced some rubber off the Jeep’s tires! No gravy could save that stuff, lol!

    Jessica for sure!

    Happy TG GiGi!!

    • Having salmon for dinner would be like every other day for me, lol!!! I wouldn’t mind though! Maybe I will come over after I finish my turkey feast ;)

  4. Hahaha – ooh lady – you never fail to deliver boatloads of side splitting laughter! Thank you!
Love your spinach, tomatoes and balsamic! My fav thanksgiving recipe involves pumpkin, sweet potatoes and pecans -thinking we are gonna have this with some spicy roasted chicken :)
I could eat pumpkin pie and not give a “rats booty about” !!! haha! And I think “Aaron Eckhart” is the TASTIEST side dish! Happy Thanksgiving lady!

And the spinach recipe is so delish, really… I wanted to make more! 1 pound shrivels up into NOTHING, lol!

And yummmmmmmmmmm Spicy Roast Chicken?! Maybe I will have my dad make spicy roast turkey – what kind of herbs/spices do you use in your chicken rub?

  5. Hahaha you girls are so silly and cute! Love the outfit lol! Happy thanksgiving!! :)

    • Yes!! I have tons of HEALTHY Thanksgiving recipes! :) Butternut squash, chestnuts, leeks, Brussels Sprouts YUM :D

Oh and you just prepare yourself for The Food Pervert and my XMAS episode! lol!

  7. Let’s get perverted with spinach!!! YUM!! I’m so glad you (and your arteries) were saved little turkey!! My favorite go to on Thanksgiving is wine. Lots of wine. At least, that’s my contribution to the feast since I don’t cook anything well enough to serve on a holiday as fabulous as Thanksgiving! Happy Day GiGi!!!

OOOOO can you make a video of yourself after you’ve had 5 glasses of wine please?!?!? HA HAHA H! :D

  8. I cannot get over how cute your hats are! I WANT, I WANT!!!! They’re almost as sexy as our baseball caps and faux beards :)

Great turkey twerk too. Although, may I suggest shaking your tail feather next time?!

And Ryan Gosling is my favorite side dish btw.

And yes, I probably should have thrusted my tail fathers a little more, however, I remember being VERY SORE thanks to our STAIR MASTER work out, so I couldn’t quite maneuver! LOL!

  9. OMG you are absolutely ridiculous. And I love it. LOVE the holiday edition and costumes. You guys are too cute. And ps can I pick the best of both recipes?? Throw some turkey bacon in your sauteed spinach? Oh yeah!

    • OMG yes! We were actually thinking about that… However Tara definitely used FULL ON BACON as opposed to turkey bacon, and I do NOT eat pork AT ALL – but I must try some turkey or salmon bacon in this spinach recipe! :)

  10. I usually just find a recipe and remove all the stuff I dont like (everything for thanksgiving has walnuts for some reason) and then I figure out a way to make it easily enough that even I cant mess it up.

Um… Where’s Beef and Bison? Are we not listing the major food groups here? 5. Definitely! Although I do cheese-free recipes… Someone has to include some dairy some of the time! 6. Erm… You mean like: not sharing? Well, I don’t plan on sharing the smoked turkey I’m making for Thanksgiving this year! :) 7. EAT THEM!!! 8. Erm… Not really my flavor, I think. But my guess is: RG. How about sharing a roast leg or elk, with a blond JA? lol

      • That would be an amazing dream! I mean, she’d probably have to ask me to stop pinching myself (cuz more than once is just weird)!! In fact (and this may be hard to believe), I might be forced to purchase someone else’s food or bring in another chef, because I’m not sure I would be steady enough to cook properly myself!

  15. Wow another Thanksgiving, your spinach dish along with Tara’s sinful crusty bread topping really compliment each other. I’m going to make this with chicken for my dinner, but I will use Applegate farms bacon and skip mayo to give it that GiGi healthy twist. I must say the Turkey twirk came first and I’m skipping desert this year. I could eat mashed potato’s with turnips and garlic till the Turkeys come home. There’s never anything left over here, not with cat’s, opossums, skunks, raccoons and me :)
    Happy holiday and travel safe.

    • Thank You Rocco, YOU TOO! I don’t do dessert either, for obvious reasons, however, I make BUCKET LOADS of butternut squash and that sort of serves as my dessert :) Have you ever had chestnuts?

      • Many times, so many of the trees have been cut for wood it’s sad. I learned the hard way that you must score the shell before roasting other wise it’s like splitting a rock open. Healthy starch and fun to eat.

        • AH ha ha ah aha ha ha aha ha! Oh noooooo!!!!! You need a mallet! ;) It’s probably my favorite food on the face of the planet actually, and I probably say that because I only eat them 3 times a year -Thanksgiving, Xmas and New Years (if they are around at that point).

I love the sautéed spinach with shallots and cherry potatoes. This is an ideal side dish not only for Thanksgiving.
    Thanks for sharing

    • You could certainly sub the bacon in the recipe – you can either ditch it completely or use a healthier, grass-fed beef bacon or a turkey bacon, whichever you would prefer! :) Hope you made the spinach dish this evening!
