Evil Weight Gain Doesn’t Stand a Chance!

Okay, be honest with me; who has had their FAT PANTS front and center in their closet since Halloween (4th of July?)? I mean holiday weight GAIN is inevitable right?

“Little Black Dress – Pick on someone you’re OWN size!”

“A belt? Good thing a bulky holiday sweater can cover the fact that I’m not wearing no stickin’ waist pincher!”

“There are starving people somewhere, so it would be cruel of me NOT to finish the apple, walnut, pecan, cream cheese pie with a graham cracker crust and whipped cream on top!”

Carmel Apple Cheesecake Pie

Ha! Consume, did I just make you conjure up mental images of glistening pumpkin and pecan pies?

Pecan and Pumpkin Pie

The holidays have been plagued with the reputation of EATING and DRINKING until you feel like a bowling ball stuck in molasses.

Well Lorna Jane, the Fit Approach and I have formed an alliance (Giproach Jane?), much like the Scooby Doo clan or the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, to kick box the holiday’s reputation into the pile of coal you hope Santa brings your arch-nemesis!

Pile of Coal

By following our lead, you will soon enough be able to sport a Miley Cyrus type get-up… Not that you’d want to. And honestly, do everyone a favor and DON’T!

Miley Cyrus half naked

Here is how we catch the evil villain known as Weight Gain and blow him to smithereens!

1. We Climb Mount Everest

Mount Everest

Okay, you don’t actually have to fly to Nepal, hire a shrepa and risk your life while trekking up this vast mountain, but exercising during the holidays is a must! Not only is it a great way to make you feel a little less guilty about your the 4th slice of pie, but it’s the most amazing “CRAZY [insert your name here]” RELIEVER ever! If you’re the type of person who flips out over the tiniest things, you will be AMAZED at how exercise can transform you into the most nonchalant person ever. And why not rock some light-weight and pretty sexy Lorna Jane gear as you punch your inner crazy into a coma!

2. Make Some Food Swaparoos

Eat this, Not That!

After trampling fellow shoppers at the mall, you realize you have yet to figure out what to make for your hungry pack that is waiting for you at home (they could give a rat’s ass that you were out shopping for gifts FOR THEM!) While ordering take out, such as pizza, sounds like the IDEAL hungry feeder, you know that a moment on the lips is forever on the hips (that is of course if you don’t “climb Everest”). And really, are you just going to eat a salad as your family chows down on that pepperoni infested gooey slice of pie? PIZZA… SOUNDS… SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOD!!!!!

No need to exhile the traditional go-to “in a pinch” feast… But why not make your OWN healthier (and honestly, TASTIER) variation! Check out Lorna Jane’s Move Over Sugar Cookbook‘s MAGICAL Cauliflower Pizza!

Are you experiencing DEJA VU like me? That’s right, Whitney and I made this utter GENIUS RECIPE a few weeks ago on DUDE FOOD!

3. Sleep Like You Were Sedated

Sleeping Beauty

Other than eating… And… Well you know, sleeping is the most amazing part of the day! While your dream self might combat crime, go sky-diving, marry your celebrity crush, etc, you always seem to wake up refreshed and energized. Unfortunately, during the holidays, you tend to put sleep on the back burner (with the burnt peas?) because you have… One… More… Gift… To… Wrap!

If you want to be dubbed the “fire breathing dragon” this holiday, then go for it, nix the six to eight hours of sleep you’re supposed to get. But, if you want to be nicknamed “fairy god-mother/father” then do yourself and everyone else a favor by putting down the scissors and glass of wine (more than one drink hinders the quality of your sleep, by the way) and head to bed!

4. Put A Smile On Your Face To Make The World A Better Place

The Spice Girls Fake Smiling

For some, holidays just mean annoying relatives sticking their what feels like long Pinocchio noses into your business. Obviously you cannot punch them into a different solar system, but what you can do is just grin and bear it! In reality, you only have to spend time with those relatives one, maybe two days at most and you can easily turn the conversation around and give them a taste of their own medicine! If that doesn’t work… Feed them the holiday cookie you have been eying, yet know you shouldn’t eat… In a sense, that’s almost the equivalent to KO-ing them!

5. All Else Fails… Hibernate Like A Bear

Hibernating Bear

Bears get it pretty easy in the winter. They can hide from the world and come out only when they want to. Well, if you must, you can adopt Yogi the bear’s winter habits, especially if that helps you cope with the commotion of your nieces and nephews, avoid the brick-like fruitcake that no one likes, yet you still eye or bypass the relatives I mentioned above. Don the ugly holiday get-up only when absolutely necessary!

Ugly Holiday Sweater

You know what though? You don’t have to put on any such none sense, why not check out Lorna Jane, they’ve got some clothing that you can rock this holiday season (well, to me work out apparel is OKAY ALL THE TIME)! And would you look at that: they’re feeling pretty festive right now, ringing in the holiday with a 20% off discount code: SHOPLJ.

BUT ON TOP OF THAT, they’re ALSO giving away a $250 gift card! ENTER TO WIN HERE!

  1. I think cauliflower crust pizza may be my greatest discovery this year. The squeezing out the liquid part is not my favorite but it is worth it! Awesome!

    • YES! Whitney and I learned the hard way that you REALLY have to squeeze out the excess liquid or else you wind up with a MESS! lol! But it’s SO WORTH IT – agreed!

  2. Whew that’s a lot of questions! :) I don’t tend to gain weight during the holiday but I think that has more to do with working from home so I don’t buy tempting foods. When I worked in an office it was tough. I also tend to hibernate like the bear so I don’t get out much to holiday parties. I wouldn’t mind if Ryan Gosling or Reynolds slid down my chimney. If I had one. They can just come to my front door and I’d be happy. :) I do totally need more quality sleep though!

    • I want to know lots of things! It took all of my might not to keep on asking questions! LOL! I think one blog post I am just going to ask QUESTIONS lol!

You and EXCELLENT TASTE in men by the way! πŸ˜‰

  3. Love the Everest tip! I joined a couple challenges on ChallengeLoop and so far my butt has been kicked (literally – my butt muscles are sore!). It keeps me moving though and that’s what I need :)

  4. I always sleep like a log when I eat properly, for me. And I love cauli pizza crust. I have never put chia in mine but looks like a great idea. Gonna try yours tonight! Thanks for sharing.

    • I too sleep incredibly well when I eat just the right amount! :) One extra bite of something, and I am tossing and turning, it’s very weird!

Hope you like the extra chia! Give it a nice je ne sais quoi – plus healthy fats! :)

  5. You fit right in with those running models. They don’t actually look like runners though…just saying. Not sure where I am going with that. I need to workout ALL YEAR, I am finally boosting my workouts around the holiday season to match my workouts last year!! BOOM SERIOUS TIME! Then I come home and eat and hibernated. ANDDD REPEAT!

    • It’s funny how “fitness models” probably don’t even work out. LMFAO. So I do not fit in with THOSE MODELS at all! ah ha ha!!

And yes mam! I am going to keep you accountable on those work outs!!! We should skype, and I’ll be your drill sergeant!

    • i agree! in fact, i think she looks better. HAWT!!!

  6. Ok, I found you in that first picture. It was difficult, I know, but I found you! I’m still having trouble figuring out where you are in that other picture… And I looked closely! I could tell which celebrities were there – but where’s Gigi?!?
Who I really want coming down my chimney? Kate Beckinsale! Especially if there were some uber-werewolves that needed dispatching!!

    • You know what? I really wouldn’t mid in Kate Beckinsale slid down my chimney either! ha ah ah. She’s way too hot for words.

      • Yeah, seriously! The only words I have for her are “Gaga-gaga…” Because my brain simply can’t handle language thoughts and thoughts of Kate Beckinsale at the same time.
In some ways, I’m kinda glad I’m not a successful actor. Because I would have had to turn down any potential roles that would have worked with Kate, since I can’t really manage to do my job when I’m not able to speak…

        • You say “successful actor” – does this mean that you are an actor in general? Is this a part of your life I do NOT know about? Or do… You just “act” for your wife?! BAHHH HA HA! Okay, I will stop being inappropriate right now.

I would love to see you in a movie with Kate now! LOL! I will set up a meeting between you two!

      • By the way: you didn’t tell me where you’re hiding in that other picture… :)

  7. Awesome post! I have been hanging out in leggings and sweat pants a little too often! Time to get back to the gym and crank out the workouts. I always make sure NOT to show up to a party famished because then I’ll eat my weight in apps!

    • Oh hey, I say, if you wear leggings, you can dress them up with a cute over-sized sweater and boots?! Comfort is key in my book πŸ˜‰

And you make a good point, if I come over hungry… And there is food I can eat – which is rare – I turn into a TORNADO! lol!

  8. One of the best ways to escape annoying relatives is to go out for a RUN! Works for me every time. Either that or I tire myself out with a killer workout during the day so if I have a party or get together at night, I have one glass of wine and I’m almost in a coma. Perfection.
Entered to win that FAB gift card! woot woot!!

    • I couldn’t agree more!!!!! What annoying relative is actually going to join you on a run too anyways?! LOL!!!!!

And I HOPE YOU WIN THE GIFT CARD!! Seriously!!!! πŸ˜€ Would be an awesome XMAS gift, especially for a runner like your sexy self!

  9. I survive them one day at a time!

I have cut back on sugar, and I have eliminated Tilapia from my diet ever since you suggested it!

I did not regift one of the 100 known fruitcakes on the planet to you, although you may wish I had.

You are crazy! In a good way, of course!

    • YES!!!!!! No more TILAPIA FOR YOU!!!!! You should write a post about how craptastical tilapia is too!!!! Lets keep the word spreading! (Did that sentence even make sense? lol)………

Oh Fruitcakes! We used to get a fruitcake every year from this woman… And no one would touch it. I really never knew what happened to them. I bet my mother – the woman who doesn’t touch ANYTHING PROCESSED, was a closet eater and ate them !LOL!

  10. Well let’s see,,,, I’m crazy enough to wear Miley’s outfit in public if we could get it on film and make some $
I think if I jogged down Santa Monica Blvd. we could get some attention :) I guess in some ways I’m lucky to have no relatives, although some kind of family might have been fun. I love rice pudding it’s a major weakness. If someone s talking about or asking something I’m not interested in, I just answer them or talk about something totally off subject, they usually stop or walk away. Can’t think of anyone to come down the chimney this year but will keep an open mind. I spotted you on the left, run with me shirt :) The pizza is next on the agenda will let you know how it works out.

    • I cannot wait for you to try this pizza! :) I really want to know your thoughts! I hadn’t had pizza in about 12 years until I made the Cauliflower pizza with Whitney, so to me, it tasted just like it. But who knows, I could have forgotten!

And yes, please do come to Los Angeles and I will film you running down Santa Monica Blvd in Miley’s skimpy attire!

  11. Goodness, you never fail to make me laugh out loud! Ha! Good tips, all. I WILL make healthy choices, I WILL get off my butt and exercise (I have xrsz for short on my to-do list today) and I WILL wait 15 minutes before getting seconds. Thanks for the reminders!

    • I LOVE the XRSZ shortcut for exercise!!! I am going to use that πŸ˜€

And I am glad I could put a smile on your face – Oh hey, that’s one of my tips! LOL!

  12. Screw it all, I think I’ll just hibernate!

Just kidding! I survive the holidays by making them healthy! My favorite holiday dessert is pumpkin pie so I came up with some crustless pumpkin pie bites to replace the sugar filled staple: http://liveanddiet.com/2013/11/crustless-pumpkin-pie-bites.html

And if I showed up at Christmas dinner wearing a Miley bearsuit, my parents wouldn’t bat an eye. That’s nothing compared to the Lady Gaga meat suit I wore to Easter πŸ˜‰

    • Ohhh how we love to Hibernate πŸ˜‰ I also love those pumpkin pie bites! I am going to make them GiGi Diet Approved πŸ˜€

And uhhhhhh…. Can I come to your XMAS festivities? I will dress up like…. Britney Spears a la 2007! LOL.

  13. I love cauliflower crust pizza. I made it last summer for the family and we did a few different ones with different toppings. Of course they were like “no way mom” but actually surprised at how great it was. I have really tried to eliminate as much sugar as possible from my foods and coffee. In fact I actually don’t drink half as much coffee as I did 6 months ago.
I did slip during Thanksgiving and purchase a bottle of Baileys!! OH NO!!! Crap, get that out of my house….
    Shame on me :)

    • WAHOO! When you put your mind to it, you can do anything!! Who would have thought you could cut your coffee consumption! So many people feel like it’s their crutch! However, coffee is incredibly healthy, but the added sugar, not so much! Have you/do you use stevia at all?

  14. Guys that cauliflower pizza crust looks amazing! I will try it sometime this month and report back. πŸ˜› This winter, I’m also determined not to pack in the winter fat. Nice tips and funny as usual

    • OMG please do report back! I am so curious! I hadn’t eaten Pizza is 12 years since trying the recipe Whitney and I whipped up, so who knows, I could be delusional! lol – Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

And since you’re determined and aware that the holidays can = weight gain, I have a feeling you will be just fine! :)

  15. My husband makes that magical cauliflower pizza and it’s not half bad!!
I had trouble reading after looking at that first photo of pie. What are you doing to me??
And I have never given up sugar but my sister once when Paleo for a month and since she’s my sister, doesn’t that mean that some part of me did it too? (not really)

    • I am SHOCKED your husband makes it! I know far more guys than girls who think that this cauliflower crust would be gross! Give your husband a kiss and tell him he’s awesome! LOL!

BAH HA HA HA AH! I had a feeling those pie photos would push some over the edge πŸ˜‰ and I am continue to laugh at your comment about your sister – That’s stretching it a bit, but if she called you complaining about paleo the whole time, then YES: you did sort of give up sugar too πŸ˜‰

  16. Ha! It’s always fun reading your posts! And I love your list! :)
I think my husband will most likely disown me when he sees me in Miley Cyrus outfit. LOL! :) So not Miley Cyrus or anything related to her on me. LOL! :)

  17. I try to get in a salad a day! that way I don’t feel so bad when I eat that extra slice of pie πŸ˜‰

  18. I usually treat December like every other month and stick to my regular gym schedule, rather than slack. And USUALLY I only eat a ton of sweets on Christmas Eve and Christmas day and then I’m back to the norm. I say usually because sometimes my mom makes an entire batch of cookies for me and only me and then I accidentally eat them all within three days. That hasn’t happened in a few years though soooooo fingers crossed!

    • I am right there with you! I treat December like any other month too! Yes, there might be more get togethers, but whatever – Exercise and eating right is far too important to ditch!

What kind of cookies does your mom usually make?! Having them in the house can be SOOO TEMPTING!

  19. Another great post only you could pull off!

  20. You look great with the other models because you actually work out!!!

  21. haha love the tips!
we try to not overdo the sugar intake and drink our water during this time of the year, we admit there are days were we don’t drink enough water and ate too many baked treats, but it happens. Like you said – we smile about it all πŸ˜‰

    • The great thing about you two though is that you both always make these delicious HEALTHY treats! Over indulging on them isn’t too sinful!!! I wish I could crash your Christmas parties! πŸ˜‰

  22. Well thank you for serving up these healthy holiday tips with a big side of laughs! My key to get through holiday season comes in two forms: KEEP WORKING OUT and PICK AND CHOOSE YOUR TREATS! I’m all about indulging in some of my favorite holiday foods, but you can’t have it allllll – I try to be really deliberate about what I want to splurge on. It makes me feel like yes, I am human, and can eat simply for pleasure sometimes, but also that I am making it a CHOICE and sticking to my clean eats overall. It works for me!

    • WORKING OUT – BEST ADVICE EVER, serious! It keeps even the CRAZIEST PERSON, sane!!

And agreed – sugar, jump on a slice of that bouche de noel, because it is something you don’t get very often… As for those sugar cookies, ditch em!

  23. I love Lorna Jane! They have such pretty clothing.

I don’t usually worry too much about gaining weight during the holiday. I keep up my fitness, eat normally, and splurge occasionally. One advantage for me as a vegan, is that most goodies that tempt everyone at every party, workplace, etc. are not vegan, so I can’t have them (well I can, but I won’t). Makes it easier to say no when you have a really good reason.

    • I am right there with you Debbie! I don’t worry too much about the holidays either, I just keep on doing what I am doing. And I am right there with you – treats out at parties, don’t phase me because typically I cannot eat them! πŸ˜‰

  24. I sort-of got distracted by the picture of pie (the first one with the thick layer of cream!!!)!!!
I don’t usually change much of my routine during the holidays – I get up at the butt-crack of dawn every day so that continues even after a late night party – I figure if I’m going to play I have to pay.

    • You and I are so much alike, if I am out late “partying” I will still get up SUPER EARLY the next morning because that’s ME – a MORNING PERSON! πŸ˜€

And whoops, sorry to tempt you with that THICK LAYER OF CREAM cake – lol!!! I went to great lengths to find only the sexiest looking piece of pie on the interweb! πŸ˜‰

  25. I live thru the holidays like the year with my exercise routine in tact, eating healthy most of the time & making choices about my treats but I don’t have to eat the whole plate of cookies! I eat my own way & let others do what they want but I eat my treat cookies non healthified! :)

Love the recipe but you need to make it for me! :)

    • I am right there with you Jody, I live through the holidays like I live through… any day in say, March, normally! And unlike you, I don’t chow down on cookies- chestnuts are my splurge of choice, and that’s not even a splurge, LOL!

I would LOVEEEEE to make you some cauliflower pizza! Maybe Whitney and I will come up with a HEALTHY L.A.-dy Bloggers COOKING day! :)

  26. I drink a lot of water, I workout (because it makes me feel good!) and I indulge moderately. When I go crazy and eat everything I only feel sick after!
I know Lorna Jane because I used to do Zuzka Light workouts daily and she always wore their clothes. They’re super cute! :)

    • Working out makes me feel SOOOOO good! I get it done nice and early every morning, even if all I want to do is make love to my pillow – LMFAO! I know that when the work out is done, I will feel AMAZING :)

If I eat too much and wind up feeling sick, I just tell myself: well it was good going down! lol

  27. Yay love this! Lorna Jane is the best :) Exercise is necessary all the time but especiallllly during the holidays.

And I am totally digging Lorna Jane right now – Maybe even more so than…… Lululemon!! OMG! Did I really just say that?!?!

  28. I have not tried Lorna Jane yet- but will need to! People can gain a lot of weight in a month if they aren’t careful….and I am gaining weight but I am 36 weeks pregnant and have the growing baby to blame. πŸ˜‰
I plan on doing some baking this month but typically make half the recipe then send leftovers off to the hard working military service men/women nearby.

    • I HAVE ALWAYS told myself that if I ever get pregnant, I HAVE TO PLAN to get pregnant so I can be during the holidays so I have an excuse to eat MORE! The baby needs some extra TURKEY! LOL! I hope you’re enjoying yourself at least a little bit! πŸ˜‰

How sweet of you to send off some food to the service men & women though!

  29. Love the sleep part! I know I turn into a GIVEMEALLTHESUGAR monster after a night of crummy sleep – my main goal throughout the holidays is to stick to my normal routine, and remember that a day (or two πŸ˜‰ of indulgence won’t give a belly like a bowl full of jelly. That’s for santa.

    • Sounds like the perfect goal to me! I mean, the holidays really are just any other days!

And you’re right, that big bowl full of Jelly is ALLLLL Santa’s!

  30. Love the tips! There is waay too much yummy food on the go at this time of year, it’s torture! I try eat as healthy as possible up until Christmas eve/day. Those two days are almost impossible to eat healthy when I spend them at my parents house haha. Just have to get back on track after it’s over :)

    • That’s a good motto to have! I mean, obviously you cannot avoid the XMAS cookies and egg nog on Xmas Eve and Day, but you can certainly avoid it during all of the holiday parties knowing that you’ll get the BEST OF THE BEST on XMAS :)

  31. I try to keep things in moderation over the holidays! I try to move more and eat reasonably, but I don’t stress out if I gain a couple pounds. After I get back to daily life, it will balance out.
I could just imagine my papaws look if I showed up dressed like Miley Cyrus!! bahahaha!! I will be thinking of that all day!

    • Not stressing out is probably the best tip ever, because stress puts on weight because well, I could get all technical, but I won’t – LOL!

AHH HA HA HA!!!! Oh my, my father wouldn’t exactly be too KEEN ON seeing me in a Miley Cyrus get up! LMFAO!

  32. My routine won’t change. I will continue exercising and practising mindfulness throughout the holidays :) Although I do plan on staying in my PJs for longer than usual…I mean, my bf and I have to take advantage of our matching ONEzzzzz’s lol

    • I am right there with you – however…. When you say mindfulness, do you mean moderation? Because to heck with that, I am going to LAY INTO the feast! LOL! πŸ˜‰ But you and I both know that my feast = LOADS AND LOAD of veggies and salmon! So really, that’s pretty guilt free!

  33. Your photoshop skills are on point, Gigi. Loved this post. I think we all know what we should do during the holidays, but it helps to write it down and read it. My holiday survival guide includes working out, drinking a lot of water and being selective with the foods/desserts I eat. If I’ve had something before, I know what it tastes like. Unless it’s on of my favorite foods, I won’t waste my calories. And Joe Manganiello can come down my chimney any day of the year!

    • Ha! If you can believe it, I didn’t even use photoshop! I used Microsoft word! LOL!

And your holiday survival guide looks a lot like mine! Working out is #1!!!!! And you’re smart not to waste calories! Save them for the foods you rarely eat all year long! :)

I have actually met Joe before! STUD MUFFIN!!!!

  34. I want to be in the scooby gang and definitely like a detox

  35. Wait…Gigi you aren’t hugely famous yet? I keep expecting to see you on TV, guess I will keep on checking in on ya πŸ˜‰

  36. I try to workout more during the holidays. Not easy when it is cold out

  37. Love this! I am definitely going to be working my booty off this holiday season!

    • You and me both! Too bad we cannot work out together to keep each other accountable! But I guess we will have to through out blogs! πŸ˜‰

  38. I wouldn’t mind seeing Robert Downey Jr. coming down my chimney in the middle of the night :)

I’ve always wanted to try a cauliflower pizza crust. I may put that on my menu for sometime in December!

    • Mmmmm Tony Stark, down the chimney – That sounds, DELICIOUS!!!

Please try the cauliflower pizza and let me know what you think! :)

  39. Eeee, that Miley Cyrus pic is frightening. I’ve also been slackin’ a bit the past week or so! I love all the tips you shared and that cauliflower crust looks amazing! I’ve tried a few different recipes, but they always call for a bunch of cheese! I love that this recipe doesn’t have any! Wow.

    • YES! I do not eat cheese so I had to look long and hard to find recipes that didn’t include it – and I have found them and they actually do work! :) I hope you try and enjoy the ones I posted! Let me know if you do try!

  40. I felt sick most of Thanksgiving this year, so I didn’t get to eat anything really. I WAS SO SAD. Don’t worry, I plan on making up for it at Christmas.

    • OMG you were!!!! NOOOO! :( I would have told everyone to NOT celebrate until I felt better, LOL! Thanksgiving is my favorite. I certainly DO hope you make up for it this XMAS… However, don’t go too buck wild! lol

  41. SLEEP! YES! I don’t have to “survive” the holidays because they’re not out to get me! Haha. I figure that until I have kids or unless my social life blossoms into some kind of sitcom, I have very few stressors and temptations during the holidays. What can I say? I am blessed! Or lonely….

OMG if I wore something Miley my family would just think I was being goofy because they wouldn’t recognize it was something Miley.

Lorna Jane is amazing. Just really in a whole different budget universe from where I live. Fortunately I won a gift card last year which is why I have the Amy Tights…which I love. πŸ˜€

    • You know what? The holidays aren’t really out to get me either because I am kind of like you, not many stressors for me! HA. Either I am just lonely or… I just don’t allow drama in my life, or deal with it really well! ha!

And hey hey! Maybe you will WIN another Lorna Jane gift care THIS YEAR too :) ENTER because clearly you have good luck in the winning department!!

  42. I really have to work on 3 and 4 but really, I would like to just hibernate through the holiday season than deal with the crazies of the family!! I need to try cauliflower pizza crust – I’ve been meaning to forever.

  43. You always crack me up ya rascal! And I wear and really like Lorna Jane fitness gear, which works well for baby boomers like me.

  44. Oh I’d love the try that cauliflower pizza crust recipe. It looks great!!!

    xx Lindsey

  45. First, your posts/videos always make me laugh/smile/chuckle/etc. :) Second, I’m up late reading blogs because I can’t sleep so hopefully I’m not too much of a grumpy bear in the morning!

The holidays don’t stress me out and we have two young kids! We don’t have any relatives close by so we do our own thing at our own pace. No outside obligations other than having fun as a little family. Sure we miss our extended families but I don’t miss the busyness!

    • So are you a grumpy bear this AM ?? I certainly hope not! If my videos do in fact make you laugh, perhaps they will help this AM if you need a BOOST πŸ˜€

And I love your holiday tradition, your family sounds much like mine. We do our own thing, no extended family!

  46. I really treat the holidays like the rest of the year anymore. I eat pretty healthy most of the time and treat myself when I want to, I keep on running and remember that life is meant to be enjoyed not stressed over every little morsel!

    • Completely agreed! I was having a freak out the other day for like 5 minutes, but then I told myself to SLOW MY ROLL because life is too short to flip out over! :)

  47. Ironic that I’m writing a similar article today for a magazine…i promise i won’t steal any of your ideas…or maybe I will since I’m feeling a little naughty today.

    • Do you need a spanking?! LOL!!! And it’s okay if you use one of my tips, you just NEED TO MENTION HOW AMAZING I AM in this article! πŸ˜‰

  48. Haha this was hilarious!

I allow myself treats I love and don’t bother with things that I only barely like!

  49. I love these tips… I need to follow all of them. Including the Miley Cyrus dress code one. I am a tad sad that I didn’t meet my wellness goals (yet another year…) so I am of course making that better by eating junk, but I have been working on swapping out healthier foods. AND I am sleeping… food induced coma or not, it is sleeping. lol

    • HA HA HA HA!!!! OMG can you PLEASE take a picture of yourself in the Miley get up, PLEASE! And then… Take a picture of everyone’s face when you strut your STUFF πŸ˜‰

You know, at least you are aware of what you have and have not done this year! Always know that if you need someone to talk to, to motivate you, to advise you, I am here for ya! Feel free to e-mail me if you ever want to! :)

  50. You went there with the twerker!!!

That pizza looks good! You know I’m a pizza junkie! So, who I’d like coming down the chimney….I got a grand gift from Santa this year πŸ˜‰ Really excited to share this first Christmas with him! Are you next :)

  51. Great post! I love these tips. I haven’t really changed much in regards to my workouts. I workout 5-6x a week year round; however, my eats have been OUT OF CONTROL compared to what I normally eat. It’s not everyday but when I’m at a party or event, I feel like it’s a free-for-all at the dessert table. AH. I’m baking cookies with my mom and sister today…this is not looking good.

    • Oh no!!!!! The holiday season got to you!!! One of my other tricks is to eat a lot of protein! It keeps me so full that I really do not need to eat anything else!! It really, truly works. But if all else fails, just focus on January!

  52. I survive the holidays by juicing and smoothie creating while at home and doing the best I can when I go out to eat to pick the best choice with a sip of champagne and a few macaroons <3 I hope you have a great holiday season Gigi and congrats on your Lorna Jane collab! Love your way C

    • Hey, if you don’t eat macaroons YEAR ROUND, then having one or two during the holiday season won’t KILL YOU! πŸ˜‰

  53. You crack me up! By far the best and most fun post I’ve seen this holiday season on avoiding weight gain. Where did you find that ugly sweater? I wanna knit one for a certain naughty someone!

    • Ha! I am glad I could throw some “different” tips into the mix! I know “how to stay healthy during the holiday season” posts are wildly popular right now! :)

And that ugly sweater, oh man, it’s ONE OF A KIND – you can certainly knit that bad boy though :)

  54. i exercise every day but my secret is to eat a healthy dinner at home before an event and then just have a drink or a light appy. that way i keep my calories down and don’t have to feel any guilt later!

    Vodka and Soda

    • That is really smart, however I fear that some might not be able to do that – they might eat their dinner at home and then when they get there, see all the GOOD and say, EFF IT, I am going in! LOL! They need to wear a blind fold πŸ˜‰ You’re lucky that you have some IRON CLAD willpower! — I do too!

  55. You are so hilarious! I love how you write. I actually don’t ever have a problem gaining weight during the holidays. I usually am so stressed cooking and prepping for guests, that the stress causes me to lose weight, lol!

    • You’re definitely one of the FEW! πŸ˜‰ I hope this holiday season goes smoothly for you, yet you still keep your weight steady!

      And thank YOU!!!

  56. I am FOR CERTAIN trying that cauliflower pizza crust. Holy yummy. Also can’t seem to fit into any of my pants lately, so there’s that :)

Hope you are having a great holiday season!

    • OMG PLEASE DO! you will NOT regret it!!! :) And if you replace it with some of the goodies that might be making you not fit into your pants, you may soon need to buy new… SMALLER PANTS!

  57. I love these tips! I try not to overindulge during the holidays, although I refuse to deprive myself! I follow the 80/20 rule, I eat healthy about 80% of the time and indulge about 20%! Okay, sometimes this is ends up being more like 70/30…and on Thanksgiving or Christmas day, forget it! But exercising is the best tip and I love coming up with healthier versions of recipes! Happy holidays! :)

  58. My family googled “how to twerk” on Thanksgiving so I totally blame that on Miley.

  59. OMG, the friggin’ sweets are everywhere!!! It’s a love/hate thing isn’t it??? πŸ˜‰

    • NO JOKE!!!!! However do you love that you hate cookies or hate that you love them? aha ha ha! If only is was the former, right? πŸ˜‰

  60. I’m definitely a professional at hibernating like a bear.. I’m capable of sleeping 15+ hours if uninterrupted so I’m pretty impressed with that. I will definitely have to try that cauliflower pizza crust because it looks PHENOM! I exercise 4X a week, 20 minutes with Jillian so that better be enough O_o. Have a great one and there is definitely NO need to climb Mt Everest (ever)! -Iva

    • OMG you sound like my roomie in college, I have NO IDEA how she did it, but she would go to sleep at like 9pm and then wake up at noon or 1pm the next day! It’s crazy, but hey, sleep ROCKS! πŸ˜€

I have never tried Jillian’s workouts before! I should give her a whirl, lol!

  61. this jewishmisfit is so boring πŸ˜‰
nothing changes over the holidays—BUT SHE DOES LOVE HER SOME LORNA JANE!

  62. I NEED TO TRY said Lorna Jane!

  63. Your hott face is in the Lorna Jane pic and NO I didn’t cheat and read other comments! It was fun finding you. Wheeeeere’s GiGi? Those pies look soo good… just another reason I need to get the birthday cake Sensey. I think people would think I feel off the deep end if I went anywhere wearing a miley outfit. It would be pretty funny actually. You could totally rock it, bahaha Christmas card what?!

    • OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!My XMAS CARD would be phenomenal!!! My family members would probably have heart attacks! And that’s hard to do because we do not have a family history of heart disease! lol

  64. I love that you included sleep- it’s crucial! And there are so many swaps that are easy to make that don’t feel like you’re restricting yourself in anyway. I try to live as normally as possible- stick to my usual workouts and mostly normal eats, with a few extra treats here and there!

    • I need to buy a spiralizer so I can make even more healthy swaparoos! I am going to ask for it from Santa this year πŸ˜€

And I could use some extra sleep right now!

  65. My eyes, my eyes — those pies! Actually, I will eat a little pie now and then, you’ve got to live a little!

  66. Love your writing style, Gigi! A bowling ball stuck in molasses? Hysterical.

Yes, for many, avoiding holiday weight gain feels almost as impossible as climbing Mount Everest, and avoiding traditional, gluten and dairy laden pizza and the bread basket is a great first step in overcoming that obstacle. Great suggestion, Gigi, as are all the others.

The cauliflower pizza recipe sounds so great that I want to go make it now! I have to figure out how to do so without the eggs, though. Not so easy. I’m thinking more of a cauliflower rice “pizza” bowl instead…Thanks for the inspiration!

Have a happy, healthy day and a joyous holiday season!

    • Thank you Dawn!!!! I love to write so I am so glad you took the time to read this! :)

Wait, are you telling me you don’t actually want to climb Everest with me? lol!!!

And you can sub in FLAX or CHIA for the eggs. I actually do not eat eggs either, but I made this recipe to appeal to a broader audience, but as I mentioned, chia or flax would work :) I hope you give it a try!

  67. All good stuff- honestly, move your body, eat mindfully and sleep. It’s not that hard, right? πŸ˜‰ These are all good reminders for making holiday weight gain not mandatory. Good stuff.

    • THANK YOU :) And I personally don’t find sleeping and eating healthy and exercising hard to fit in… However, some, for instance party hosts, or people who live where it’s -30 (my sister!!!!) might find it a tad bit more difficult!

  68. Last holiday I was greedy as hell, but somehow lost 2 pounds. My holiday feedings keep the body guessing. I don’t use a plate this time of year. I eat from a trough.

  69. There’s a lot of wonderful stuff here! I know you read about my insomnia but unfortunately that’a s family trait. Because of that I’ve learned to put sleep first and cherish every little minute of it.

I also started training with a running coach. He asked if I wanted to start now or after the holidays and I said now please!

It’s hard for me to say no to the person offering the food when I know they made it out of love. :)

    • I give you tremendous credit when it comes to dealing with you insomnia! I am not sure how I would be able to cope! I am thrilled you decided to START NOW instead of wait til the new year – WHY BOTHER WAITING! :)

  70. Getting enough exercise is the key to surviving the craziness of the holidays for me.

I’m working on sleep, but it’s really tough to get enough right now. But I won’t give up! :)

  71. Haha – the innuendos in this video are seriously hilarious!
I am so down with #5 – i so would wanna hibernate till Spring 2014!
As for who I would REALLY like to see come down my chimney in the middle of the night – why Aaron Eckhart of course!

    • Ha Ha Ha! I guess hibernating isn’t an option this season?? LOL… You wouldn’t want to though, because you never know, AARON might make his way down your CHIMNEY!! πŸ˜‰

  72. After a week of overeating on Thanksgiving, then overeating on a 7 day cruise, this post is just what I needed to remind me to “walk the talk” and adopt a very disciplined approach in order to avoid the dreaded holiday season weight gain. I mean “who needs it”? Trying to lose weight is such a drag, right? I generally survive the holidays by always making a huge salad as part of the holiday dinner menu and making that my main dish. Thank you so much for sharing this “lifesaving” post with us on the Healthy, Happy, Green and Natural Party Hop! We sincerely appreciate these tips for keeping evil weight gain at bay! Have a happy holiday!

    • I am so glad my post was “life saving!!” I am so honored to have my post titled as such! :) Holidays can certainly be the worst, but you have a good mind set!!!! WHO NEEDS WEIGHT GAIN during this season, you’ll be kicking yourself in January when you’re sweating it out EVEN HARDER trying to rid yourself of the excess weight.

That all being said, I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving and your cruise! We do only live once πŸ˜‰

  73. Wow that pizza looks awesome. Who would of thought that cauliflower could look that good!

  74. I’m glad I discovered your blog today, it’s a hoot! I am not much of a baker, that probably saves me during the holidays. I keep up with my skating during the holidays, though not so much when my house is full of guests. Luckily my guests are pretty much healthy eaters, too, so the food doesn’t get too crazy.

    • Thank you Mary! I am thrilled you found my blog too, I adore meeting new people and making new friends, so I certainly hope you return!

Skating is such good exercise, if only I was so graceful but I am def no Tara Lipinski! LOL! Is she even still relevant?

  75. Great post! I am with you on NO ONE dressing like Miley haha! Not a good idea at all.

I think sleep is a big thing that gets overlooked around the holidays, so I try to get as much as possible, especially before finals week!

  76. Holidays can be evil! Love your posts! Thanks for linking up at our Gluten Free Fridays party! I have tweeted and pinned your entry to our Gluten Free Fridays board on Pinterest! :)

    Hope your week is great!

    Cindy from vegetarianmamma.com

  77. I have trouble not letting the holidays catch up with me. I’ve been wearing a lot of leggings these days!

On another note, I made chicken shawarma and dedicated it to you in my post :)

  78. Great tips, Gigi, thanks for sharing them, I’m featuring this post tonight on the Waste Not Want Not Wednesday party :) And I’m pretty sure my husband would take me straight to the doctor to have my head checked if I put on a Miley Cyrus outfit!! My favorite healthified recipe this year is the Gluten Free Chocolate Cranberry Bread I shared on my blog two weeks ago :)

    • THANK YOU SO MUCH DANIELLE! :) I have another delicious post for the WNWNW party tomorrow! I love to PARTAYYY… Just not in Miley’s outfits. LOL!!

I am SHOCKED your husband wouldn’t want to see you Miley’s leotard! πŸ˜‰
