The Three Amigos Are A Delicious Meal

Bragging isn’t something we should be proud of doing, however, we all totally do it.

Bragging on Facebook
Rob Burgundy Kind of a BIG DEAL!

That being said, if you’re bragging for inspirational purposes, that’s a whole OTHER story!

Cameron Diaz’s The Body Book actually encourages fans to brag! #BragYourPlate is a hashtag campaign where fans of the book post scrumptious food photos that embody the message The Body Book promotes: eating whole, natural and unprocessed foods.

In order to encourage such bragging rights, The Food Pervert and I will officially be collaborating with The Body Book by showcasing one fan’s recipe per month in… Our speciality: video format!

This month…

Julie Resnick of @TheFeedFeed submitted a trio of recipes that go together as well as…

Three Amigos

These amigos!

Julie’s recipes include a roasted sea bass, a wheat berry and kale salad and roasted carrots.

TheFeedFeed's Black Sea Bass

I guess Steve could be considered the sea bass, because of his white hair…

Chevy could be the wheat berry and kale salad because it’s quite an intricate recipe and Chevy is… “intricate” himself.

And Martin… Definitely the carrot dish. He just kind of looks like one.

You know you want to PRESS PLAY on this video!

Roasted Sea Bass

Baked Striped BassServes 4

  • 2 whole cleaned & scaled black sea bass (we used striped bass)
  • 2 shallots thinly sliced
  • 8 sprigs of thyme
  • 1 handful of basil chopped
  • 3 lemons (2 sliced into rounds and the other halved)
  • sea salt
  • pepper
  • olive oil to brush the fish
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Rinse both bass with cold water and pat dry.
  3. Place fish into a shallow baking dish and then brush with olive oil and season with sea salt and pepper.
  4. Fill the cavity of each fish with fresh herbs and lemon slices and sprinkle shallots on top of the fish.
  5. Toss the remaining lemon rounds around the fish in the dish.
  6. Roast until the fish has cooked through and the skin is a bit crispy, about 20 minutes.
  7. Squeeze juice of half a lemon over the fish after removing it from the oven and transfer to a serving platter with fresh herbs and the roasted lemon rounds.

Kale and Wheat Berry Salad

Wheatberry and Kale SaladServes 4

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Remove the stems from the mushrooms and place them dome side up (not touching each other) on an oiled baking sheet and toss the halved onion to the far side of the sheet.
  3. Drizzle everything with a little olive oil, salt and pepper.
  4. Roast until the mushrooms are crunchy and have shrunk considerably, about 20 minutes.
  5. Don’t be surprised when you taste the mushrooms as they taste a bit like bacon. Set aside.
  6. While the mushrooms and onion are roasting, rinse the wheat berries, then boil them in a pot of salted water until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  7. Now make the vinaigrette. In a small bowl add the honey, mustard, and about 2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar and whisk in about 4 tablespoons of olive oil.
  8. When everything is ready, heat a large sauté pan and quickly sauté the kale in a bit of oil until wilted then remove from the heat.
  9. Add everything together in the sauté pan (or transfer to a serving bowl) and toss in vinaigrette.
  10. Give it a stir and serve warm or at room temperature.

Roasted Carrots

Roasted Carrots

  • 1 bunch of carrots peeled
  • olive oil
  • sea salt
  • pepper
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Place carrots in a shallow baking dish and drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper.
  3. Bake for 35 minutes until they are cooked through and caramelized a bit.

Anyone have Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short’s phone numbers because I really would like to serve them all up some of these dishes!

So if you want to be featured in next month’s #BragYourPlate recipe video… GET HASHTAGGING!
(It will be as if you’re in the kitchen with Tara and I!)

  • Step up: Do you brag?
  • How do you feel about cooking with a WHOLE FISH?
  • Have you ever choked on a fish bone?
  • WTF are snow pea sprouts?
  • Would you rather go to Vegas or Wally-World with Chevy Chase?
  • Have you gotten your hands on The Body Book yet?

Fish with GiGi

  1. I love wheat berries but sort of forget about cooking with them. That particular recipe is right up my alley. I will, however, not be making the fish … maybe I could shape tofu into a fish??

    • AHH HA HA HA! You can def. get creative and shape tofu into a fish 😉

And I have never cooked with wheat berries before, so this was INTERESTING – that’s for sure!

  2. Ok so the sea bass won’t be part of my vege life, but OMG, I will take this delicious berry kale salad 😀
And that photo of you and the fish – its like the princess and the frog all over again 😛

    Choc Chip Uru

    • Ah ha ha! OMG I am a Disney cartoon in your mind, AWESOME :)

And yes! The wheat berry salad is all kinds of amazing – and could even be a balanced meal in itself!

  3. Whole fish kinda creeps me out. I don’t need that dead thing staring at me as I devour it’s meaty goodness. That said, this recipe looks delicioso as the three amigos would say!

  4. The Kale salad is legit (I’ll just skip on the wheat berries because of the paleo thing) but the sea bass…that’s a show stopper!
But did you seriously filled the cavity of the fish with just thyme and basil? In the video it looked like there was some arugula too. Answer honestly! 😉

  5. I’d be so intimidated by cooking an entire fish. It’s on my cooking bucket list tho so maybe one day 😀 And I’ve never had wheat berries before (at least I don’t think so) so I’m putting the salad up there as well!
This recipe is def worth bragging about BTW
Oh, and yes I’ve choked on a fish bone before…definitely wasn’t pretty haha

    • Oh cross it off your bucket list immediately :) It really isn’t as intimidating as you might think. And it’s just so tasty! Don’t be scared any longer :)

  6. Wheat berries used to be one of my favorites… this meal looks lovely!

  7. I don’t mind cooking whole fish, but it’s usually something smaller, like trout! (Actually, I hope to be grilling some up soon, since my husband is planning a fishing trip in a few weeks. He’s decided fishing is his new hobby. Free food! Works for me.) And that wheatberry salad looks awesome! I love how you can cook up a big batch of wheatberries and use them in so many different types of salads.

    • OH MY GOODNESS can your husband send me some fish too! I would LOVE to get free fish as it’s the main food group (? lol) I eat!! You’re so lucky!

  8. Wally World!
I’m bad at bragging, and selling myself, but I can probably brag about my dog. She rocks.
I have trouble eating things that look like they did when alive. So I can eat lobster meat but not lobster! Same with crabs and any kind of fish. Is that weird?
Never choked on a fish bone! I hope that lasts.

    • You can brag ALL YOU WANT about your dog, so so so cute :)

So are you saying, you wouldn’t want to eat Pigs feet with me? LOL!

  9. I’m reading The body book too and really enjoying it. I love her!

  10. Great fun and idea…so the recipe is to be one from the book??

    • Oh no, there are no recipes in the book – all the recipes are inspired by the book’s motto – you create them and BRAG about how awesome they are – just hashtag #BragYourPlate :)

  11. Love how you were playing with the raw dead fish haha. Sexy. But seriously, the final product looked delish :)

  12. Am I supposed to hashtag three recipes/meals in one photo on instagram?

And I would totally date Martin.

    • Oh no, it can honestly be your plate of food (whatever you made)… A meal you have out at a restaurant… Any healthy food you eat, you can hashtag #bragyourplate :)

  13. I have to say..I get freaked out about eating fish that looks like a fish still..but if you eat it and its good, I trust you girl! Everything else looks DELICIOUS.
And I don’t brag..unless its about my incredibly stunning looks.

    lolz, JUST KIDDING.
xoxo Sarah Grace, Fresh Fit N Healthy.

  14. You are so. freaking. hilarious. <3 <3

Your face in that last picture cracks me up, hahaha!

  15. I love roasted carrots! The sweet caramelized flavor is so delicious!

I’ve never cooked a whole fish before but my mom would cook a whole fish a lot when I was a kid. It’s so good when you fry it with ginger and garlic!

  16. No to the whole fish please. I like my food cut into cubes so I can pretend nobody died because I’m too weak willed to go vegan.
I brag! I humble brag! I back-door brag! I brag bitch and bragdouche! Not gonna apologize either!

  18. Nothing better than a fish cooked whole, although it does freak a lot of people out. Fun to do though. Great recipes, and really funny stuff (as always). Thanks.

  19. I brag ALL the time about my creations, Ha! And I literally just stepped in the door from buying a whole salmon that I’m going to cook very similiarly (lemon, dill and parsley in the cavity) to yours except I’m going to toss it on the grill. YUM! Btw – this is wild salmon and I got it on sale for $8 bucks!! ($2/lb). I think I’m going to go back tomorrow and buy enough to fill up my freezer.
Love you video – everything looked delicious and I’m going to make that salad!
I wouldn’t go anywhere with Chevy Chase except to the Hudson River where I would stand behind him and kick his whiny ass into the polluted river. LOL!
    Thanks for the fun, girls!

    • OMG!! I am ENVIOUS of your $8 purchase!!!!! I would have purchased about 5 of those whole fish just to have in the freezer… For a rainy day? LOL!!! You better post photos of your grilled creation!

  20. Great recipe! What’s not to like about the Patagonian toothfish!

I never brag, I just tell the truth, although I’ve heard that the older you are the better you were, lol!

I prefer Steve Martin to Chevy! Love the banjo!

    • This fish isn’t Chilean Sea bass! ha ha. I wish it were – but alas, it is not.

And hey, there can be truth to bragging 😉

  21. That first graphic cracked me up but oh so true!!!! :)

I once again am not a fish fan, wish I was, BUT love the other 2 dishes!!!!

  22. I don’t think I can do whole fish, whenever I see it I kinda cringe. I think it’s the eyes.. they just terrify me!

  23. well we have never cooked a whole fish before, but a few weekends ago we enjoyed a whole fish — snapper! head tails and all. It was good. Ate all the way down to the bone

  24. Yum! I’ve never cooked a whole fish before but I love eating it! Might have to give this a try :) #wowlinkup

  25. oh to be there in person when you all filmed this, i might die from laughter. But really, id eat that fish with fish face! YUM!

  26. YUM! I love sea bass, this looks awesome!:) It’s the one fish I hardly ever get to eat but enjoy so much when I do:) The roasted carrots look awesome too!

  27. These are really attractive dish’s, I mean the food :) no really, looks like a good night off dish. I think their really regular pea sprout’s how can you tell the difference ? I want to go to Wally World, we need some more silly comedy’s like Vacation in Hollywood these day’s. I have to say that Gary was such a catch GiGi, I bet you two are having a blast :)’ I’m a little sad but happy for you. Never been a bragger I think of myself as humble. Thanks again for the great post and :)

    • Ah ha ha, you did NOT mean the food, don’t you lie 😉

And I couldn’t agree more with you – what happened to the campy comedies that are actually GOOD!

  28. My bragging is all fitness related. I’m a really big deal in Spain. NOT!!!!!
I wish I could brag about a meal but the best I can do is seared salmon and roasted root veggies. Boring.

    • I bet you actually are a big deal in Spain – stop being so modest! LOL!
AND UHHHHH when are you making this seared salmon and veggies again? I AM inviting myself over!!

  29. Ha. My parents always steam a whole fish! It scares me sometimes.
The salad looks delicious though. =)

  30. Um…being half Asian we often used to steam up an entire fish…and I used to think it was gross. Forgive me?

  31. so SO proud and happy for you for this opportunity 😀 <3 And it's not bragging if you're awesome :) I totes need to roast some carrots!

    • Ah ha ha! How do we know we are awesome though? LOL! Then again, everyone has a different opinion as to what is “awesome”! 😉

  32. All three of these look totally awesome! Well, for some reason I have a weird aversion to olives, and to cooking with more than 3-4 ingredients at a time, but other than that I’d totally make this dinner!

But if you could have Julie make it for me, I would have NO PROBLEM eating every bite!

    • I actually know several people who cannot really stomach olives! You’re not alone, that’s for sure! I will just eat your share of olives :) Oh and PS: cooking ALL of these recipes at the same time…. And filming them – VERY HARD lol, so… I think I am going to stick to the 4 ingredient or less recipes for now, LOL!

  33. Bragging about my meals? Not me. Texting the same picture of a recent lunch to three different people and showing it to another friend I met later than day is NOT bragging, right?!
And I feel we need to change places if you like fish – which I obviously don’t – because I’m about to move to the seaside. A single visit to that city proved that it’s a seriously fishy area. I already told my mum I would NOT bring home fresh salmon for her any time I visit my parents.

    • AHHHH HA HA HA AH AHA HA AH! I am so glad that I am not the only one who sends food photos to people! Man, what would we do with out our camera phones!!!! We should exchange numbers and just send food photos to one another, LOL!

      • Why yes, let’s get started bombarding each other with food pictures. That might be the incentive I need to start working on my phone photography ;). Because right now there are some seriously hideous pictures. Including one from last week showing a vegan meal at a fish restaurant – don’t ask how bad it was – served on a fish-shaped plate, haha.

        • Ahha ha ha ah! Too funny. Well, all my photos are pretty horrific so… I have a feeling you’re doing better than me! LOL!

  34. Looks delicious actually, would love to try it, I never have… :)

  35. I’m not sure I have the stomach to cook a whole fish, but those carrots I can totally do!

By the way, I got my adorable bag the other day! I love it. I can’t wait to go grocery shopping next week with it. I will be so stylish at the old Food Lion.

    • YAY!!!!! I AM SO GLAD you got the bag :) Food Lion is going to be ENVIOUS OF your sexy tote – they may even have to invest in Vine Street Market, and sell some of their totes at the check out! 😉

  36. Whole fish intimidate me…plus I hate dealing with bones. The Kale salad sounds really interesting! I love the recipe name…that is so fun!

  37. Love your videos… always so cool! I’ve never cooked a whole fish but always wanted to! Your’s looks pretty darn legit. I’m impressed!

  38. I have never cooked a whole fish before–they’re so scary looking!! Even though I love fish so I don’t know if that makes sense. Simple ingredients though and I’m all about that. Also–LOL to those ecards.

  39. Dying to try that fish recipe! Looks good. Okay so yes, I totally brag. It’s funny because it took me a long time to feel comfortable posting pictures in “bragging” poses, but like you said, doing it to inspire is a total different thing. It works for me and hopefully others! :)

    • You DO inspire!! :) So keep on posing hottie hot hot!! Also, yu better try the fish dish this weekend! Hello summer!

  40. Whole fish sort of ick me out but that looks pretty dang good – maybe I could do the same with fillets!!!
And, I’m an idiot so I don’t have a clue what wheat berries are – guess I should check it out.
I love that Tara wore a striped shirt to go with the theme of striped sea bass!

    • You could definitely do the same with fillets – I don’t see why not :)

And HA! I didn’t even notice Tara matched the fish! LOL!

  41. I borrowed the Body Book from the library… and was SO disappointed. It felt like textbook fluff to me. I was hoping for something more!

    • It’s definitely not for the people who already know X Y & Z about nutrition and health, but for those who are clueless as to how to live healthfully, it gives them some information that might actually sink in because a celebrity says so… It’s sad that people may only listen to celebrities but… It’s true.

  42. This looks crazy good!!! I need you to send the cooked version DIRECTLY to my front door hot and waiting. #wowlinkup

  43. LOL, I love The Three Amigos and Martin does kind of look like a carrot. I want to watch that movie now! That Kale and Wheat Berry looks especially fabulous!

    • Ah ha! Well it’s officially the weekend so you hopefully will have plenty of time to watch this CLASSIC FLICK :)

  44. I got to readsnippets of this book from a magazine and Cameron is amazing no? Her advices are so practical.
I have cooked whole fish before. I live in an area in my country where fish is abundant and red meat is expensive so fish all the way! I even ate raw fish. Straight from the sea. So sweet. Fresh! You always have the most fun post =) #BrilliantBlogPosts

    • I love me some Cameron! :) I like how straight forward and NO FRILLS this book is!

I love RAW FISH straight from the sea/ocean 😉 Where are you from??

  45. I must say, I’m not sure how I feel about eating the whole fish…. it’s probably really tasty but I’m just not sure I could do it haha. And if I avoid it, I can keep my fish bone chocking record clear. 😉 That wheat berry and kale salad however sounds perfect!!

  46. i’m a chicken (ha) when it comes to cooking fish…. though i love eating it! i think i’ve cooked tilapia like three times and salmon… errrr i always have the grocery store cook it lol

  47. I am so totally NOT a bragger. In fact, I brag so little and am so modest that I win the prize for the least bragging blogger – lol!

I am a little scared of seeing the fish head — although I love fish. What if you saw the cow’s head attached to your steak? Just saying — ignorance is bliss. Again kidding.

Snow pea sprouts — I have been using these nutritious micro greens before they were even hip — this is totally factual and not a boasting statement. HA!

    • OMG STOP. I just got the worst mental image EVERRRRR! A cow head attached to my steak, UGHHHHH!!! lol. I am going to live in my ignorance, yes! 😉

  48. Do I brag about how freaking amazing I am?!?! Of course not. 😉
Can we just talk about roasted carrots?? Love them and want to go make some right now!!!

  49. I don’t brag but I do cook a whole fish. My hubby isn’t from here originally. He is a French speaking Cameroonian and he taught me how to cook a whole fish back in the late 1980’s when we were dating. I love baking fish, trout, bass, walleye and my favorite but I broil it is Chilean Sea Bass. Visiting from the #wowlinkup

    • Wow, when am I coming over to your house!!!! Chilean Sea Bass… ALL TIME FAVORITE :) In fact, I think I may have some tonight!

  50. That fish scares me…but the kale looks good (minus the cheese of course…and the mushrooms) and I AM ALL OVA THOSE CARROTS. My cat once choked on a chicken bone…that was fucking scary.

    • Bah ha ha! I knew the fish was going to scare the pajesus out of you! LOL!!!!! I always think about you when I make these videos, FYI – ah ha, is that creepy?????

  51. I brag about Teddy all the time! lol

  52. Love the whole fishy! I get a little freaked out when ‘cavities’ need to be filled (dentist issues!?) but I reckon I could handle it if I got that badass bass at the end of it 😉

  53. I have a recipe linky on Fridays I sure hope you can come on over to share your recipes with us. Have a great weekend.

  54. Not going to lie. The cooking a whole fish thing grosses me out to no end. I can.not.stand it. LOL

  55. I have a thing about cooking/eating food that is looking at me. Can I have a filet-o-fish instead?

    • HECK NO!!!!!!! Filet-O-Fish = Fried to the core!! LOL – and you know that I don’t condone that 😉

  56. Ok, I’m totally ALL OVER that wheat berry salad and LOVE the kalamata olives, omg sounds so good!! I would love to go to Wally World with Chevy Chase, haha! Also, I don’t brag, but I share highlights about exciting things but I always, always give gratitude for everything because I’m super grateful! 😉

    • I had a feeling you’d like the salad :) You could eat it because going to Wally World! You need all the energy you can get in order to make it through that day! LOL!

  57. I have to admit I have never made a whole fish like that. I’m not sure if I could! I mean, I could…well, you know. But I love sea bass…I just don’t want to see his face and feel bad about the whole thing. Could I make this without the whole fish do you think? Thanks for linking it up with us at Foodie Fridays and love that last picture!

    • I don’t know why you think you couldn’t make fish like this! Initially I was a tad bit intimidated but it’s actually SO EASY! Just be sure to have the fish counter peeps GUT THE FISH for you – or else you’ll be stuck with the messy task! LOL.

And yes you could make the fish without the head – have the fish monger just cut it off! :)

  58. That first funny about the tampons… I snorted laughing. So. True.

Looooove sea bass. It’s the BEST fish ever. Like buttah.

  59. Love the look of the salad! I’ve only just recently started eating fish, so don’t think I’d be quite brave enough to eat the whole thing just yet haha. I also LOVE Cameron’s book 😀

  60. I have not cooked a whole fish – but you gals make me wanna chase down a sea bass and stick in my oven! Wait – I meant literal oven and sea bass as in fish! Keeping things PG and all!
This recipe sounds pretty fab – thanks so much for sharing it! xx

  61. I’m kind of a pansy when it comes to eating the entire animal. I know what I’m eating, but I don’t want the fish’s eyes to be on my plate! I do love my fish though, and I have eaten suckling pig, so this is a lot better than that!

  62. In honesty, whole fish creep me out! I just feel like they are looking at me.

  63. Yummy! Only thing I really learnt from the Body Book was to drink more water which was fab but found the rest pretty repetitive! Lovely seabass there! Please do link back to the linky, thanks for linking up!

  64. Send me a copy of the boooook. You are clearly Cameron Diaz’s long lost sister so I know you can hook a sista up!

  65. Hi GiGi,
With such an amazing blend of yummy ingredients–especially kalamata olives–I can’t wait to make your
Kale and Wheat Berry Salad and the Roasted Carrots are amazing! Thank you so much for sharing these healthy and delicious recipes at the Plant-Based Potluck Party Blog Hop! We will enjoy it!

  66. Great inspiration! I don’t know if I could clean the fish though :( I still need my mum for this type of jobs, sic. I can definitely make the salad, yay! Thee idea of baking mushrooms and onions together sounds super cool.

  67. I love that there is a full blown menu here! Next time I have someone over for dinner I’m sorted. I love your blogging style, the pictures are fab! I might have to include some cheeky pics in my next post 😀

    • Yes! You certainly should – ridiculous photos are the BEST!! :) I laugh so hard at all of the dumb screen shots I can find of myself 😉

AND LOVE YOU for stopping by!!! I post every Tuesday!
