This is really interesting I guess not being a veggie and it not being something I looked into I always thought in many ways it would be a lot more healthy - I'm going to have to check out those burger alternatives as hands up as I don't eat beef that is something I do tuck into from time to time.

Attacking the veggie burgers today are we??! ;-) I agree that many veggie burgers are not as healthy as one might think, but as a plant-based eater myself I don't rely on frozen food section veggie burgers as a main source of protein. I like whipping up easy homemade burgers made with ingredients like black beans, broccoli, carrots & brown rice. In terms of actual vegetable and grain production versus meat production, we know that it takes WAY LESS resources to create the former, so eating plant-based often is better for the planet... but I won't get into that, & I will agree that Hilary's is a good veg burger choice!

Informative post, Gigi! My "beef" against veggie burgers is they usually try too hard to taste like meat and they fall way short in flavor and texture. I've made my own for awhile from nuts, grains, beans, veggies and tofu. It's kind of fun to experiment and I do like tofu as it's own ingredient rather than as a meat substitute. If I don't feel like a burger the mix usually works up well into (no)meat balls. That being said I agree with what you and others have said about reading the labels and trying a few brands/styles to see what you like. It gives you alternatives, which is never a bad thing.

READ LABELS and WATCH the video! I was vegetarian for 7 years, went to their health retreats to learn. 7 years later no healthier, high cholesterol bla bla.
I never could understand why vegetarians hated meat and tried to substitute to make their food look like it had meat.
Either side of the fence we need to read label, better still avoid all processed junk where possible.
I never heard of Hexane in soy, amazing, thanks for the info. Back in the day, I ate so much soy. I don't touch it now and won't buy anything with soy in it.
Well all that to say KEEP up the good work, we need it.

Obviously being a vegetarian, I'm glad that we have slightly more options now than say, 15 years ago when I was in elementary school and was happy to eat a "burger" like my friends when there was that rare veggie option, haha :P

But now, I'm more cautious about brands like Morning Star and Boca...there really is no need for all the fillers and unnecessary ingredients. At least now there are more wholesome options and brands than just those two...and I forgot where I had it but recently I had a burger made from just chickpeas and beets...one of the most heavenly and nourshing things I've ever eaten haha!

In reply to <a href="https://gigieatscelebrities.com/veggie-burger-alternatives/#comment-243875">Devin</a>.

I have to agree with you Devin, these food "trends" and whatnot typically stifle out actual education. There was a hot minute there where people were talking about the "Impossible" burger... But not necessarily for health reasons, just because it "bled"... And vegetarians and vegans were intrigued by this. Then the hubbub went away and back to the keto and paleo diets we go... I am not shitting on those diets because I find some aspects of both to be quite healthy, however again, we need to focus on the crap that's being served to us! I am so glad that you thought this video was informative and very appreciative that you will reference it in the future! <3
