Taking On Taiwan

As you may remember… The Food Pervert (Tara) and I (and Lynn Chen of The Actor’s Diet of course) were invited on a stomach-bursting culinary excursion in none other than the little country next to China, under Japan and above the Philippines

Somewhere… Over the PACIFIC!

Give up… And too lazy to look at THIS POST to see where we went?

13 Hour Flights can’t bring us down!

Well, Tara and I took on… TAIWAN!

Posing outside Donglong Temple with just one of our many fans!

Do you remember reading The Odyssey back in high school or maybe in college? Well, Odysseus’s journey has NOTHING on the one Tara and I took on… (#CPC)

This Peking Duck is quite the ladies man…

In fact, I have a feeling all of the people of Taiwan now believe Tara and I to be Laestrygonians (okay maybe not laestrygonains as we are not cannibals)… But we truly ate everything.

AND THEN… I put THIS in my mouth… #bizarrefoods #Taiwan #ItsOnTaiwan #YupImupat4amthankstojetlag ๐Ÿ—

A video posted by Geneviรจve (GiGi) (@gigieats) on

We even got to eat theย equivalent of Helio’s swine…. Mullet Fish Egg… Or Black Gold as they like to call it.

I just love sticky goo in my mouth…?

However, unlike in The Odyssey, no one feared Tara and I dead, for we were actually treated like ROYALTY... And we posted numerous Instagram photos whenever we had WiFi… Thus proving we were still kicking (and sometimes even screaming)!

Blonds have more fun… Just sayin’!

In fact, we were treated on the daily toย gluttonous breakfasts buffets,ย 7 to 10 courseย fancy-pantsย meals for both lunch and dinner, a pimped out, Austin Power-esque tour van, swanky upscale hotels and VIP access to monuments and monasteries!

The mind is everything. What you think you become…

Oh and we cannot, and WILL NOT, forget the foot massages but of course!

Little did I know, my legs were to be slapped around like prison inmates in a few minutes!

Sure we may have been lured with into this Taiwan visit with “wine and cheese” much like Odysseus and his men were to the Landย of the Cyclopes… But we didn’t have to fear for our lives for even one second… Except maybe at the night market.

So Tell Me…

  • What would you do to keep yourself busy in aย tour vanย for 5 hours straight?ย
  • What is the strangest fruit you’ve ever eaten?
  • Do you like Karaoke?ย
  • Have you ever eaten those Koala-shaped cream-filled cookies?
  • How do you feel about pork buns?
  • What country do you think Tara and I should “eat” next?!
  • Do you want to go to Taiwan now?

  1. This looks like the most amazing trip ever!! Minus the 13 hour plane trip. The longest plane trip I’ve ever been on was 5 hours and I was getting some serious cabin fever!

  2. Looks like you enjoyed yourselves. Taiwan street food is overwhelmingly popular!

  3. Holy crap am I ever jealous!!!

Sounds like an awesome adventure, glad you had a great time. And I’m admiring your gastronomic bravery, some of those things looks kinda scary!

    • Right?! I was pretty impressed with my bravery too… On more than ONE occasion I definitely wanted to gag though, LMFAO!!

  4. Maaaaaaan, you’re a queen, Gigi! So jelly of you vacation ๐Ÿ˜€ and I love karaoke! The next country you should eat next is Vietnam!

    • A queen huh?! Well, in West Hollywood… That term means something totally different, LOL!

Oh and I am ALLLLLL about Vietnam!!!! Definitely already on the list ๐Ÿ˜‰ Where do you want to go next?

  5. So jealous and so want to go to Taiwan to eat tons of street food right now!

  6. I don’t know if I ever would have been inspired to travel to Taiwan but after reading all your recaps… HECK YES!

  7. Karaoke on the bus!?! That lady was getttting it. As I just sent you a text of…that fried PB sandwich made my mouth water…not the duck though. I do have duck eggs in my fridge however, have you had those? Why am I asking you questions via blog comment as if we don’t speak every waking hour? Glad you guys made it back alive and full of good food!

    • That lady was gettin’ it the WHOLE TRIP… Her name is Ronnie and she was BOSSSSSS-TASTIC. Ha! That’s an understatement too! LMFAO!

  8. Looks like an amazing trip! So glad you had a great time!

  9. a boy i love lives in Taiwan and is a surfer. i need to go there. :) looks awesome! i don’t eat pork, so no pork buns here, but i looooove karaoke. can’t stop won’t stop once i get a mic in my hand. :)

    • OOOOOOO I want to know ALL about this boy ๐Ÿ˜‰ Where in Taiwan does he live? I should have packed you in my suitcase!!! I didn’t wear 1/2 the stuff I brought, so I could have just left it and brought you instead, lol.

  10. So freaking awesome! I just love all of the photos you’ve shared from this trip. What a unique place to visit. Also – that video is great! I need to start taking more videos. Do you just use your cell phone? I can’t decide if I want to buy a video camera (if it’d be easier to compile everything?)

    • For this video we just used out iPhones and I am actually pretty impressed with the results! So really, you could get away with using your phone, and just getting a little stand with it. But if you want to be a bit more professional, you can shell out for something with a bit more knick knacks, but it’s not necessary! Let me know if you have any other questions about video Diane, ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. What an amazing video!!

On a trip to Ireland, because of an airport strike in Dublin, we landed in Shannon and bused across the country. That was a tough ride since it came just after an overnight flight. The driver would not tell us how long the ride would be but it turned out to be about five long hours.

Not a big fan of karaoke. I do like playing my guitar and singing.

I’d love to go to Taiwan. :-)

    • OH MY I WOULD HAVE BEEN BITCHY McBITCH BITCH if I were in your shoes during that trip, LOL!!!! So glad it was you and not me ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. ‘I just love sticky goo in my mouth’ !!! Ha you’re outrageous! You are so adventurous in your eating. When I’m in foreign countries I tend to be a little more hesitant about what I put in my mouth Bc I never know if it has dairy in it!! I’ve been on long (8-10 hr??) plane rides to Europe before and they don’t especially bother me if I force myself to sleep. If I’m awake that entire time however Watch Out! I’m a restless beast!

    • With all my food allergies I was definitely hesitant, however, with foods I actually can eat, I am balls to the walls and want to try everything! ๐Ÿ˜‰ So yes, sticky goo included in that – ha ha ha ah aha ha!

It’s so weird Jill, on these flights – I didn’t sleep all that much and I didn’t even watch any movies!!!! I have no idea what the heck I did. Oh that’s right. I just laughed with Tara the entire time, ha ha ha!

  13. What would you do to keep yourself busy in a tour van for 5 hours straight? Try to keep Matilda from climbing out a window/all over everyone else.
What is the strangest fruit youโ€™ve ever eaten? I am lame and the most exotic fruit I have ever eaten was a papaya.
Do you like Karaoke? No, I have Karaoke-ed once before. I had been drinking (a lot) and needless to say, it was not pretty.
Have you ever eaten those Koala-shaped cream-filled cookies? No. I am not sure what they are.
How do you feel about pork buns? Umm. Gross.
What country do you think Tara and I should โ€œeatโ€ next?! Hmm…Germany? Or Israel.
Do you want to go to Taiwan now? Not particularly, but as you see from above, I am very lame.

    • OOOOO GERMANY and ISRAEL are officially on the radar for me! :) I have not been to Israel before but I LOVEEEEE the food! he he hehe! There I would totally gain 40 pounds, ha! ๐Ÿ˜‰ You should come with, he he he! However, I don’t know that Matilda would want to come?

      • I’ve been to Israel! The food was great!! Jerusalem is really interesting. It’s like being in Africa and the Middle East at the same time. Lots of stories about that trip.

  14. That looks magical! Im glad you guys had a good time!

  15. 13 hours on a flight? WOW. I’ve never been on a plane longer then 5 hours so I know how you guys must have been a little exhausted but you certainly can’t tell. You guys look like you had the time of your lives. And that’s always a great sign of a wonderful vacation. Beautiful photos.

    Kia / House of KTS

    • Oh we did! Tara is the best travel buddy ever! I don’t think I can travel without her now, lol! I fed off her energy and she fed off mine ๐Ÿ˜‰ Never a dull moment!

  16. Did the van have a bathroom?? What if you had intestinal distress?? Side of road? 13 hours of flight?? I’m just kidding with all the questions. I do know that you commented on my blog on your flight, so I feel special as heck.
I’m impressed with you. I am NOT an adventurous eater.

    • Side of the road… In a HOLE IN THE GROUND!!!!!!!!!!! (no bus bathroom) MISERABLE. In the video (not sure if you watched) Tara was walked in on when she was SQUATTING… And this girl SCREAMED BLOODY MURDER – it was the most horrifyingly hysterical sound EVER!!!!

And yes, you kept me occupied while on my flight and I appreciate that! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Soon enough we will just be texting all the live long day!

      • I started watching and got interrupted by Des! Can’t wait until he goes to bed. And yes to texting all night long! It would be a dream. 973-713-5974 for a good time!

  17. This trip looks so fun. I dont know about the food though

  18. What an amazing trip!! Crazy cool food too! :)
Asia is definitely on my bucket list! Humm… I think you should hot up somewhere is South America next!

    • Oooo South America! I never even really THOUGHT ABOUT South America… But Chile sounds pretty awesome……. Or Nicaragua! ha!

  19. Actually yes, I totally want to visit Taiwan! That trip looks amazing. As for karaoke I like it okay if it’s the type where you get a private room…and five hours in a van? Huh. Good question. Podcasts?

    • How about 5 hours of Karaoke …. Like we did! ๐Ÿ˜ lol!!!!!!!
I was pretending to sleep at one point, but… Not with all the screeching!

  20. Fingers crossed for October! I’m not sure I’d go to Taiwan – that’s a crazy long flight! – for the food but those traditions, monuments and other sights sure would be worth a visit.
Those koala cookies? Childhood memories right there. We only had one flavour but I’ve seen many more in Asian groceries.
And the next country you shoud eat? Duh, Germany!!!!! Get over here already!

    • GIRL I AM WORKING ON IT! Germany would be FREAKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beyond amazing actually :) I have been but I never appreciated the food, I certainly know I would NOW ๐Ÿ˜‰

And my fingers are CROSSED for October! ๐Ÿ˜€

  21. As I mentioned before, I was so concerned about your tummy but glad they were good to you! I have to watch the video later – no time right now but the pics were amazing!

I am one of those that has no desire to go there… but it looks fantastic!!!!

    • Tummy luckily only hurt ONE DAY! ๐Ÿ˜€ I really think my stomach loves OTHER COUNTRIES aside from the US, ha! There is something that is tainting our food supply for sure! Womp Womp.

      Love you Jody!!

  22. Man, this post took me back to when we went to Taiwan. The grilled squid was my fave, too! And the BUNS! yes! All the in-cents were a little much for me, not gonna lie. Glad you two had so much fun! LOVED the video, you ladies are great. Check out my trip blog posts: http://heatherrunsfast.com/2013/12/20/kaohsiung/, http://heatherrunsfast.com/2013/12/26/hey-hey-from-taipei/

    • OMG CHECKING OUT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HA! You should have been with me!!
Tara and I just filmed a 3 in 1 recipe video… Including the grilled WHOLE squid! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Mmmmmmm! So dang good…. I “can’t even” – LMFAO!

  23. UMMMM AH-MAH-ZING!! Take me back with you!

  24. This looks like the trip of a lifetime — great photos! :)

  25. You guys look like you are having so much fun. I used to travel a lot but then got burnt out after all the work travel. You and Tara seem to have a great time together. YES – I would love to visit Taiwan or actually any Asian country. I’ve been to Europe and North America, but no other continents. Love your travels and videos.

    • Asia is definitely next for you — and this time FOR FUN, no work!! Just lots of eating and exploring, that is your assignment! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  26. I have no doubt you ladies are having a fabulous time! Enjoy

  27. I loved the video GiGi you guys are super entertaining. And that oyster omelette…YUM!

    • Mike, stay tuned!! Tara and I just filmed a video recipe for the Oyster Omelette ๐Ÿ˜‰ Among other things!

  28. Looks like you had an amazing adventure! I feel like it’s always a culinary adventure when I go home and visit my mom. She cooks amazing food but I never ask what it is anymore! And I do love pork buns

  29. Wow!! Your trip looks like it was so much fun!
Taiwan is definitely one of those places I think about visiting some day but the distance intimidates me. Your pictures make me think otherwise.

    • DO NOT let the distance intimidate you AT ALL!!! The flight really wasn’t bad AT ALL! And I got to see Japan too! ๐Ÿ˜€

  30. I have been to the airport about 5 x but never seen Taiwan. Looks like it was a blast!

    • Oh it so was!!!! And you’ve been the airport but never actually to the country! WTF – where were you going to instead?

  31. PS random note just realised we have same last name!

  32. I need to get my ass on a plane…and drag a FOODVENTUROUS person with me as well.
Ill nibble :-) they can snarf.

  33. It looks like you had an amazing time! I love karaoke – I am kind of the karaoke queen!

    • I WISH YOU WERE THERE TO SHOW ME UP! LOL!!! Come visit LA, there are LOTS of Karaoke bars in Korea town ๐Ÿ˜‰

  34. Looks like you guys had lots of fun. And these photos are adorable! Love your travels and videos! :)

    • Aw thank you ANU!! :) I am glad you enjoyed it! Some tasty videos to come.. And HOPEFULLY many more travel videos too!

  35. I want to visit Asia in the worst way, but the hubby thinks he’d have to fill his suitcase with jars of pb to survive! I’m not going to show him your post ๐Ÿ˜‰ Looks like you had a blast!!

    • BAH HA AH! I definitely brought a lot of my own foods with me JUST IN CASE – but your husband should NOT worry at all, there is TONS OF AMAZING food, you just have to weed through the creepy stuff, LOL! Maybe just bring 1 jar of peanut butter ๐Ÿ˜‰

  36. Love the Odysseus theme to this post! I’m actually rereading The Iliad at the moment, and that’s next. Anyway, what a fun trip! Really awesome post. And the video is amazing. You rock! Thanks for all the fun.

    • I LOVEEEEE ALLL THINGS ROMAN mythology… So I had to remind everyone the amazingness that is the literature of our past! I am pumped to hear that you’re re-reading!

  37. Looks like so much fun! Love you with the gong (?) thing in the beginning…it looks like SO MUCH GOOD FOOD! kinda jealous!

    • THE FOOD – THE FOOD! The fish was just SOOOO dang fresh, I cannot get over that! *heart eyes* ha ha! You must go Deanna!

  38. Koala cookies rock. Van tours kill me. I’d sleep of bring a bottle of wine. Dont’ judge.

  39. Looks like you’re having so much fun! I definitely do the audiobook thing for long trips. We just drove for 5 days and Harry Potter was the perfect companion! Enjoy all that food!

  40. That looked like an awesome trip! My friend is from Taiwan & I had heard the food is great. Btw, that Peking Duck…wowza! (Side note: it was great to meet you yesterday at the farm!)

    • IT WAS SO GREAT meeting you too! :) Did you have fun??? I cannot wait to try the eggs I bought, but I just found out my oven is broken, ha! So I guess I am going to have to wait a few days… LOL.

I wonder what event we will run into each other next at!

  41. I’ve been to Hainan Island, China a few times, and while I adore it, some of the more peculiar culinary delights take some getting used to. Por Ejemplo, fried fish skin snacks.

    like potato chips they’re served.

  42. Looks like an amazing trip, great pics and fun video! Not sure about the 13 hour plane ride and long bus tour, I’d need some serious TV and movies loaded on an iPad! :-) I would love to go on a plant based tour of Taiwan!

    • Oh we did some vegetarian restaurants – and we had a vegetarian on the trip who always left the restaurants STUFFED so you definitely you would been happy to be with us! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  43. What a fun trip!! How did you like the food there?

    • The food was VERY interesting. Definitely some delicious things and definitely some down-right gag-worthy specialities. Ha! My favorite was probably the blue fin tuna and the grilled squid! ๐Ÿ˜€

  44. First off did the sandals make it home ? I noticed every one looking at them in the videos. What a great trip for you both and the food looked fantastic. Never had a pork bun I tried a grapple once. Could be a bucket list destination for me, the time in air would be tough. DongLong I’m not even attempting any kind of comment. Thanks for the pick up it’s been a really bad week. I hear Germany has some interesting foods and Tara could surely taste test some frosty brews :)

    • Oh the sandals did make it home – of course they did!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ They’re my trusty travel buddies – lol!
Honestly 13 hours sounds terrible but it really wasn’t too bad, so definitely put it on your bucket list… You need to get the pork bun and make Tara proud – ha ha.

  45. I am so jealous, er, proud of you two, taking that amazing trip to Taiwan. Even if it screwed up another chance for us to meet. :-). Seriously, what an adventure.

    • Ha Ha Ha! Thank you for being jeal….Proud of us! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Xo! I definitely think about you EVERY time I am around veggies and vegetarian cuisine and there was LOTS of it in Taiwan… Only more incentive for you to go! :)

  46. I never thought about traveling to Taiwan ( sorry ) anyway, now you’ve peaked my interest, especially the National Park ( who knew it had such natural Beauty- other than you, but that goes without saying) I am pretty experimental with food, but when I traveled through Asia, it wasn’t my favorite cuisine- but I really don’t care all that much because I love to discover new countries regardless of cuisine, that’s only one small part of it .I’d like to know how I can come along on your next trip– do you need an assistant? It looks like it was really fun and interesting. My next trip is to Big Bear- bawhaha! sounds so boring.

    • THANK YOU – YES! Discovering new countries regardless of cuisine – that’s ME TOO! I mean, the food was good… But I TRULY LOVED the food in TURKEY when I went to visit a few years ago… GAHHH!!! But exploring is far more my jam… However, we do need to fuel ourselves for exploration, right?!?!? ๐Ÿ˜‰

BIG BEAR!! I have never been! ha ha ah! When are you going? I should tag along and be YOUR assistant ๐Ÿ˜‰

  47. Looks like you guys had a blast! Taiwan is on my bucket list for sure.

    • YES!! I am so glad to hear that! It always feels nice to cross things off the bucket list, so get your booty on over there, ASAP! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  48. Your pictures are so gorgeous! You are making me hungry and giving me wanderlust!

  49. Looks like it was ridiculously awesome!! Ty and I are going to Italy in October and I can’t wait to eat my way through the country.. I mean the history/sights are cool and everything.. but I’m REALLY in it for the food!

    • OMG OMG OMG! I CANNOTTTTT wait to eat my way through Italy with you as I read your blog updates!! Never been to Italy so I am jazzedddd for you!

  50. This looks amazing!!! Thank you for linking up at the Creative K Kidsโ€™ Tasty Tuesdays! I have pinned your post to our Tasty Tuesdays Pinterest Board!! I hope to see you again next week! xo

  51. You ladies looked like you had a FUN time! I have a secret/public love for steamed pork buns. YUM.

  52. Great post and loved the video! I so want to go yes, and get a foot massage. And find courage to taste everything! Well juts got back from a road trip so looking at directions kept us busy but we were driving lol.
Durian is my weirdest fruit. NOT for me. Pork bins are a thumbs up!

  53. Haha so glad Tara didn’t fall into the “toilet hole”! And WOA- the scenery around those Shrine Springs was fabulous and that gate to the “DonLong” temple wow!!!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen “beehive shrimp” before! Nor have I had or seen Koala-shaped cream-filled cookies! What a trip y’all had! Thanks so much for sharing that video! Dudette- I LOOVVVVEEED it!

    • I AM SO GLAD YOU LOVED IT ๐Ÿ˜€ I loved making it because I got to re-live everything all over again… But of course it was also hard to make because originally the video was 35 minutes long, ha ha ah! I had to cut so much out ๐Ÿ˜‰ Perhaps I shall throw that in a BLOOPERS video at some point, lol!

GO FIND YOURSELF THOSE Koala COOKIES! OMG I used to love them. They have 3 flavors – chocolate, strawberry and vanilla! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  54. WOW! Vacation of a lifetime! You look like one seriously fun chick to hang out with. I hope our paths cross in real life one day =D

    • OH THEY SHOULD cross one day! Or MULTIPLE days ๐Ÿ˜‰
…. I do know how to have a good time, tee he he eh! But in the most odd ways. I mean, I can make staring at a wall fun – at least for me? LOL!

  55. Yes, I want to go to Taiwan. Love Karaoke and do it whenever I can…and lots of times when I shouldn’t. Your trip looks fantastic. But here’s the big question of the day. Does your mother read your blog, you naughty girl? That comment did NOT escape me, lol.
Great post. Now I’m going to watch the video :)

    • HA HA HA AH AHA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOPS! Tee he he he ehe he h ehe he ehe!!! My “naughty” self popped out for a 1/2 second. LUCKILY… NOPE, my mom does NOT read my blog or watch my videos because she KNOWS those types of comments might pop out here and there ๐Ÿ˜‰ She knows my personality too well, and she cringes LOL!

  56. Ok, watched the video and you two are some brave freakin’ eaters! hahaha! I thought I was adventurous but you guys are unstoppable. Too fun!

  57. It looks like you guys had a super fun time! I seriously can’t imagine any situation where I would be in a van for 5 hours. My claustrophobia would take me out. I do LOVE karaoke though! I can do a badass version of Goodbye Earl. I’m sure you would love to hear it! :) Please go to England and bring me back some bangers and mash or fish and chips on your next trip!

    • Oh girl! I told Tara that I get claustrophobic…… However, she for some reason thought that sitting by the window in the plane would help. GAH – NO. But I bucked up… And I just told myself that I do in fact have an escape route, AKA: jumping over everyone if I have to (I am flexible like a cat, LOL). So that helped!

And um, can you please FILM yourself doing karaoke and send it to me?! I must see this epic-ness???

  58. OMG pork buns! I loved those so much when I lived in New Zealand and had access to lots of good asian food. I miss them these days but still think they are awesome.

    Loved the video!

    • One of my best friends lives in NZ, I should ask her if she’s a Pork Bun Fiend! ๐Ÿ˜‰ And perhaps she can SEND YOU SOME – tee he he eh!! Can you not get them anywhere in TN? Maybe you could MAKE SOME???? Blog Post Idea, I THINK YES!

  59. Robin Rue (@massholemommy) says:

What an amazing adventure! I would absolutely LOVE to visit Taiwan someday!

  60. I am in awe of your bravery. I don’t think I could do it. You blonds have more fun in Taiwan for sure.

  61. Look VERY BRAVE eating all those odd things… I think I would try to sleep the whole 13 hours if I had to survive that long on a plane… but great that you had such an adventure!

    • I wanted to sleep the entire time, but it was difficult. I didn’t bring any sleeping aids either so…. Up I was! I did buy some WiFi though! I mean, I always need to be blogging, right?

  62. I can be a little picky with my food I suppose, but it doesn’t mean I would try something at least once…unless of course its slimy, then you’d have to pay me. ๐Ÿ˜‰ It looks like you totally took on Tawaiin. I would love to go just for site seeing and experiencing a little bit of different culture.

  63. This looks like a whole heap of fun! With fun food thrown in, which is amongst the best kind of fun :)

  64. I am so insanely jealous right now I can’t stand myself! I want to go to Taiwan next time y’all go. You know the best stories always start with “I just love sticky goo in my mouth”. lol! That needs to be on a t-shirt or something :) I have no idea how I would survive a 5 hour van ride (maybe drink?), love to karaoke (when I’m drunk), love pork buns (drunk or sober, it doesn’t matter), I would eat the heck outta some Koala-shaped cream-filled cookies, I don’t know if I’ve ever had a really strange fruit, and you guys should go to Barcelona in Spain next (if you haven’t been already). I think it’s the best eating city in the world.

    • Well Karrie, you’re in luck…. A TSHIRT LINE could very well be in the works, BAH HA HA HA HA AH AH AHA! And that T-Shirt will be REQUIRED to be worn when people go to job interviews, I mean, that’s vital information prior to hiring someone ๐Ÿ˜‰

AND I CANNOT BELIEVE you recommended Barcelona……………….. If you catch my drift! Shhh!

  65. oh how lucky are you! I love Asia – it is amazing – we have been to a couple of countries in asia – but not taiwan.

  66. Wow, what an amazing experience. It looks like you two had the time of your life. I totally want to go to Taiwan someday. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    • Oh you definitely have to put Taiwan on your To-See list… Just not this weekend because a Typhoon is about to hit!

  67. What an amazing and memorable trip you went on for so many reasons. Food to sites to people to culture must have been wonderful.

    • Oh it was beyond wonderful! I would go back in a heart-beat, however……. Not this weekend thanks to the Typhoon that’s swarming in there!

  68. Adding this destination to my bucket list!

  69. Sounds like an awesome trip. Love all the photos. Thanks for sharing.

  70. Pretty cool! I want to go!

  71. Taiwan looks so beautiful, it looks like you had an amazing trip; I would love to visit there someday myself!

  72. That looks like an awesome trip! Great pictures! Thanks so much for sharing.

    • I am glad you enjoyed the behind the scenes look at Taiwan! Hoping to get you another behind the scenes look at another country soon! :)

  73. michelle bowman says:

    • Michelle, in the upcoming weeks Tara and I will be posting 3 recipes that we re-created from Taiwan… So stay tuned because you will very well be able to eat some of the food we ate in Taiwan in the comfort of your own home! :)

  74. michelle bowman says:

Such a wonderful experience you had. I wish I could go there too, well maybe someday, and I will try also try their street food even the exotic one. Better to check out where’s the best place to stay-in. thanks for the info and photos! Very much appreciate it.

  75. Elizabeth O. says:

Good job for trying all the food! The places you visited look absolutely divine.

    • THEY WERE! Our tour guide certainly knew where to take us! :) If you ever go, email me! I can tell you where to visit :)

  76. Hey girlie! Haven’t visited in a while with wedding stuff and all, but looks like you are still your awesome self! Loved the video! How do I keep busy in a bus for 5 hrs? Hmmm…. we just did this in Norway during our honeymoon and I slept a lot, plus watched movies online (the buses have WIFI).

    • Aw! I am soooo glad you came back for a visit, I must visit your blog to see the latest :) And Norway for your honeymoon huh?? That sounds pretty romantic to me… I am going to check your blog to see if you posted pictures!!!

And um, a bus with WIFI? Are you kidding?! We are just too connected these days lol!

  77. This is such a great endeavor. I love seeing all the pictures. Sounds like a fun trip!

  78. This looks like it was one hell of a trip! I would love to go to Taiwan, I have a friend who lives there and have an open invitation.

Pork buns? Heck yes. Love them

  79. Taiwan is a very nice place to visit. I’ve been to Kaoshiung and I had a wonderful time. The food is great as well as the shopping.

  80. Oh my gosh, what an amazing trip! We visited Taiwan about 5 years ago – way to go on trying all that food! :) Love all the photos, looked like so much fun!

  81. CourtneyLynne says:

    Omg now this looks like
It was a pretty fun trip! I would love to go to Taiwan one day!

  82. I wish I had such an adventurous palate! I love trying new spices and seasonings, but I’m pretty picky about what they go on. I’d still love to go to Vietnam though. :)

    • Why did I say Vietnam? I meant Taiwan. Oops!

      • HA HA AH! Don’t even worry about it. So many people thought I went to Thailand ๐Ÿ˜‰ Taiwan is the forgotten country that people need to put back on their radars!!

And I too ADORE herbs and spices that are unique and extremely pungent!

  83. wow this looks like it was an AMAZING trip….so many interesting places and foods to experience…

    • Yeah it was incredible!! However I was sad to see that the Typhoon hit all the places that I traveled to and wound up killing some people :(

  84. The pictures are so cute. Looks like you had an amazing trip. I recently met a Taiwanese lady who took me to a Taiwanese place and had me taste something authentic Taiwanese. Yummm!!

  85. Sounds like an amazing time and so much fun for you both. How did you avoid all the foods you are allergic to? Don’t forget to visit Australia.
    Fridays Blog Booster Party

    • Oh man, our tour guide was AMAZING and made sure EVERY 7 – 10 course meal that was served to me was 100% GiGi Friendly. I almost wish she didn’t… Because I totally gained a few pounds, LOL!

  86. Great video, Gigi! It looks like you guys had a really great time in Taiwan! Thanks for sharing! ๐Ÿ˜€

  87. That’s awesome! What an awesome trip, didn’t bring me ish did you? Could’ve brought me a shot class or something :'( I don’t know if blondes have more fun but this is coming from a brunette ๐Ÿ˜› Have a great one GiGI! -Iva

  88. Taiwan will never be the same now that GiGi was all up in ‘dat place. heheheeee. That picture of the Pacific is beautiful.

  89. This trip looks like it was a blast. I need to dye my hair blonde and join you guys for some fun.

  90. You love sticky goo in your mouth? You’re hilarious!!! Looked like you really had a good time in Taiwan!!

  91. 5 hour ride is no problem. I just daydream about being a warrior princess or being abducted by hunky space aliens!
Weird fruit? Watermelon! Tastes like dirty sugar water and the entire point seems to be spitting the seeds as far as you can but mine just dribble down my chin. Just weird!
I would eat panda cookies. I have never seen any but, COOKIES!!!
Pork buns? No … Pretty sure No!
Visit Taiwan? As a tall person I expect I would have an unobstructed view at all times. Either that or a face full of awnings, laundry and low hanging roofs.
You should come to Canada for a visit. Surely you can find some unique Canadian dishes that aren’t poutine or beaver tails. So stereotypical!

    • Okay so now I am curious… HOW TALL ARE YOU?

And I totally agree with you about watermelon – BLEH! Not a fan!

PS: I have never actually been to Canada before! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  92. OH EM GEE. The hospital unblocked your page!!! <3 Life is wonderful! <3 (I've been trying to comment for what feels like ages, hahaha. ._. )

I'm glad you got to try so many delicious foods! Durian mighttt be one of the "strangest" fruits I've ever had (everyone else seems to hate it :[ ).

Yay for karaoke, and those koala-shaped cookies are the best! ๐Ÿ˜› I can't eat pork, but those pork buns have always smelled absolutely delicious to me. I'd love to figure out how to do a BBQ chicken version someday! :]

I'm mildly biased, but I'd suggest Hong Kong! :]

    • Bah ha ha hahahaha! Your hospital blocked my page, that’s pretty funny ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am glad you finally are able to get through though – I always love when you come by and comment!

Durian, yes I have heard of it!! But I have never tried it before.

Are you allergic to pork? I don’t eat pork because GAHHH YUCK – LOL! And the second you make BBQ Chicken Buns… Oh man, your life will be complete lol!

I ADORE HONG KONG and would have ZERO PROBLEMS going back!!!!

  93. For serious! It made me so sad! Of all the pages to block, why the hecks would it choose yours?! But hooray for the block being lifted, and hopefully it stays that way, haha. :]!

People tend to compare durian to sewage sometimes, so most people aren’t too thrilled about trying it. My family tends to shun me when I eat it, so I actually haven’t had it in ages. (I guess if you don’t end up liking it, it can also double as a pretty formidable weapon? :D? )

I’m not allergic, but it’s technically against my religion, so I’ve never knowingly had it. I need to get on that BBQ Chicken Bun experimentation though (once I have a kitchen again…)! :]

    Ah, me too! <3 I miss the food so much! :D! I heard things are getting super expensive there though, so that's somewhat of a huge bummer. ;_;

    • I think I might need to carry some durian in my purse as all times – it’s not illegal to use it as a weapon ๐Ÿ˜‰ HAHAHAHA!

  94. Wooot! Looks like you had a lot of fun! It’s been a few years since I’ve been back to Taiwan – I miss it! Especially the food! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Oh the food – OH THE FOOD. There are a few things I would LOVE to eat right now from Taiwan if I could! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  95. What an amazing experience. The food looks interesting. Not to mention the monuments and sights.
I think you should go on an Italian excursion next….
